ACTIVITIES & EVENTS
At Pat-A-Cake we believe a large number and variety of engaging, educational, and fun activities and events is not just nice to have, it’s essential. So throughout the year, we have many wonderful “extras.”
From our gala holiday celebrations to our neighborhood fieldtrips to our wildly popular “Music and Creative Movement” with Ms. Monica, Pat-A-Cake has frequent “extras” that inspire happiness, learning, and creativity.
Our activities and events include:
ANNUAL FAMILY NIGHT
Parents and children have a wonderful time at this annual feast usually held in the spring. Every year, we experience a different cuisine to honor the ethnic roots of our students. Families and staff mingle and become better acquainted at a fun event filled with good fare and friendship.
SUMMER CARNIVAL
What could be better than a visit from Zooky the clown and a chance to be challenged by an obstacle course—topped off by a tie-dye activity and ice cream sundae fix-ins?
PAJAMA DAY
Our children feel comfy and cozy wearing their pj’s to school and look forward to the slumber party that awaits them. A giant cushy mattress is a perfect perch to take a nap, listen to a story, and watch a special Disney movie.
VISITS FROM SANTA AND THE EASTER BUNNY
It wouldn’t be Christmas if Santa didn’t come to town. He always stops by Pat-A-Cake for a chance to see his favorite friends and leave special presents. Easter is also big at Pat-A-Cake as the children are enchanted by our larger-than-life bunny that gets teachers and students hop, hop hopping along!
HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS
The children have a fabulous time celebrating all the major holidays, including Thanksgiving, both Chanukah and Christmas, Easter, Valentines, and Halloween.
VISITS BY A NATURALIST FROM GREENWICH’S BRUCE MUSEUM
When Bruce Museum naturalists visit it’s always a chance for an engaging, hands-on educational experience. Whether it’s Native American artifacts at Thanksgiving time or the “crusty crab” expose at Byram beach, our children delight in these fun and educational visits.
“MUSIC AND CREATIVE MOVEMENT” WITH MS. MONICA
The children sing and dance with glee, and their imaginations soar, as this gifted Founder of LeapSmart© invites them to become everything from giraffes to airplanes to butterflies. Ms. Monica also includes Zumba, and brings gymnastics, tumbling and yoga to Pat-A-Cake—outdoors when possible. Ms. Monica visits Pat-A-Cake three times every month.
ORGANIC NANNIES
These entertaining ladies come twice in the summer and twice during the rest of the year with their Critter Caravan filled with small, pettable animals.
GARDENING ACTIVITIES
Every spring and summer, the children engage in many activities that enhance their understanding and appreciation of the natural world as they prepare, cultivate and enjoy the bounty of a flourishing garden. They plant bulbs, flowers, tomatoes, pumpkins and various vegetables from seeds and observe and record their growth. At harvest time the children prepare delicious, nutritious treats from their bounty such as homemade marinara sauce, BLT’s, tasty pumpkin flowers, and toasted pumpkin seeds.
ST. JUDE’S BIKE-A-THON
Our young bike enthusiasts put their feet to the metal to raise money for the children of St. Jude’s Hospital. The event raises awareness of the cardinal rules of biking and empathy for our St. Jude’s friends.
VISITS FROM SAM BRIDGE NURSERY
Greenwich’s favorite nursery visits us twice a year and brings our big Halloween pumpkin, colorful gourds, big bales of hay, and bulbs the children plant in the spring.
METRO NORTH TRAIN RIDE
Just before our toddlers transition into preschool, we take them for a walk down Main Street in Byram where they board a Metro North train, go one stop to the Greenwich station, and enjoy lunch at Planet Pizza.
